SCORM Troubleshooting

Problem:

SCORM file is not uploading and I receive a 'Scorm is not valid' error.

Troubleshoot:

  1. Publish the SCORM file out from the authoring tool and leave ZIP as is before uploading into EthosCE.

  2. Was the SCORM file shared to you via Google Drive? If so, have the SCORM author send it using a different method(like WeTransfer) OR you can try the following steps:

    1. Right click the folder and download from Google Drive. This will zip the folder.

    2. Double click the ZIP on your computer to unzip.

    3. Double click the folder and multi-select the files within the folder

    4. Right click and choose 'Compress' option

    5. A new ZIP file will appear (typically labeled as 'Archive.ZIP')

    6. Upload that new ZIP into EthosCE in the SCORM object.

  3. Does the SCORM file contain a non alphanumeric character?

    1. Non alphanumeric characters are not supported for the naming of SCORM files.

    2. Rename your SCORM file to only contain alphanumeric characters and try uploading the renamed SCORM file to EthosCE in the SCORM object.

    3. Alphanumeric characters are all A-Z, a-z and 0-9 characters.

Problem:

SCORM file is not loading for users or results in an error.

Troubleshoot:

  1. Does the SCORM file launch successfully in SCORM cloudReasoning: If the SCORM file returns errors, this indicates there is an issue with the file itself, outside of EthosCE. In this case, please have your content creator review.

  2. Did the SCORM file change recently?

  3. Do users have a completion status, according to the SCORM report?

  4. Is there an index.html file within the SCORM package?

  5. Was SCORM published out as a supported versionReasoning: If SCORM is missing the manifest files from not being published properly, the SCORM object will result in error. To learn more about publishing out SCORM files, please see how to publish out a SCORM package properly in Captivate and Articulate Presenter.

Problem:

Users cannot move past the SCORM file to the next course object or to course completion.

Troubleshoot:

  1. Was SCORM published with a supported LMS reporting status?  If you review the details of the attempts in the course's SCORM report, does the Completion status say "COMPLETE" and Success status say "UNKNOWN"? If so, the SCORM file is reporting complete to the LMS and not pass/fail ("success"). Please have your SCORM author review this.

  2. Does the SCORM file complete successfully in SCORM cloudReasoning: If the SCORM file returns errors, this indicates there is an issue with the file itself, outside of EthosCE. In this case, please have your content creator review.

  3. Does the SCORM file itself have any specific configurations set, for example:

    1. User must be reviewing SCORM file for a certain length of time

    2. User must pass quizzes within the SCORM file

    3. User must click each slide within the SCORM file

  4. Did the SCORM file change recently?

  5. If using Rise by Articulate, is the Navigation mode set to Free or Restricted? We have seen success passed to the LMS when the Navigation mode is set to 'Restricted.'

Problem:

SCORM quiz, polling, or interaction responses are not appearing in the LMS SCORM reports.

Troubleshoot:

  1. Are the questions in the SCORM file setup to be interactions?

    1. To test this, upload the file into SCORM cloud, turn the debugging mode on, and see if the interactions/responses are happening for the reporting to the LMS. If not, please have the SCORM author review to add interactions to the questions in the SCORM file and re-publish the file out.
