Redirect URL - ADD ON

This is an add-on feature. Please contact your Product Specialist for more information.

When migrating to a new EthosCE installation from a previous, non-EthosCE site where both sites use the same domain name and contain migrated courses and content, it is necessary to add redirects from the old course URLs to the new course URLs. This add-on provides that functionality and helps ensure that users will be able to find the courses. It will also will help with the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of your site.

In order to use this module the old domain must be setup to redirect to your EthosCE site. This requires an update to the A name or CNAME alias and setting up the server to accept the additional domain.

In order to search for links that need to be redirected

  1. Navigate to Google.com.

  2. Type site: [the old domain name].

To set up a redirect that links to a valid URL in your EthosCE install post-launch:

  1. Click the URL returned in the Google search.

  2. If the URL redirects you to an EthosCE page with the "Page not found" message click the "Add URL redirect from this page to another location" link.

  3. Add the EthosCE URL to the "To" field.

    1. If the original URL contained a querystring (for example ?id=1234), ensure that the querystring is present in the "From" field. It is not picked up automatically.

  4. Click Save.

OR if the EthosCE sites hasn't launched yet, this can be done without the Google links.
